Blackmon Funeral services for Carl Ross Blackmon Sr., 81, of Kershaw, were conducted Sunday afternoon, August 10, from First Bapitst Church by his pastor, the Rev. Billy K. Fallaw. Interment, with Masonic rites, was in the Kershaw Cemetery. Active pallbearers were six nephews, Ebin Young of Columbia, Jack Jordan of Kershaw, William (Sonny) Jordan of Bishopville, Edwin Verdery of Orangeburg, Robert Gardner Jr. of Lancaster, Johnny Blackmon of Charlotte. Honorary pallbearers were: D. E. Baxley, Roy Croxton, Orie Morgan, Frank Blackwell, Truman Faukenberry, Dr. Danny Blackwell, Harold Mackey, Minor Gardner, John C. Clyburn, Albert Cunningham, W. C. Cook, Tommy Faile, and John M. Graves. Mr. Blackmon died Saturday, August 9, in Marion Sims Hospital, after a lengthy illness. Born in Lancaster County, March 30, 1888, he was a son of R. L. and Almetta Hinson Blackmon. A retired farmer, he owned much property in Lancaster County. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Kershaw. For 25 years, he served on the Board of Trustees for the Flat Creek School community. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of Lynches River Rural Electric Cooperative for many years. He was a life-time member of Abney Lodge No. 211, AFM. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mamie Jordan Blackmon; two sons, Ross Blackmon Jr. and James Lloyd Blackmon, both of Kershaw; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Kate Gardner of Kershaw, Mrs. Nan Verdery of Orangeburg, and Mrs. Ersie Stewart of Warrenton, NC; and one brother, John M. Blackmon of Rock Hill. |
