John Spratt Clowney (1852-1929) was the eldest son
of Moses and Susannah Yongue Clowney. His name honors his paternal
grandparents from County Down, Ireland: John Clowney and first wife
Mary Margaret Spratt. John Spratt Clowney married Alice Jane Brice
and they raised 9 children in Fairfield Co., South Carolina.
Hester Jane Clowney (1854-1879) married a local beau, Jimmie Dick
Aiken. During a difficult labor in November, 1879, she recited the
23rd Psalm and died. The infant was buried with her, in her arms,
at Salem Presbyterian Church in Fairfield Co., South Carolina.
